THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY BLACK WOMEN IN PRE-LAW SOCIETY

The Howard University Black Women in Pre Law Society (BWPL) is a non-selective, pre-professional organization founded in 2022 by Howard Alumna Genesis Lewis. The purpose of this organization is to increase the number of Black women entering law school after graduating from Howard University. We aspire to educate, empower, and equip Black women students as they seek to confidently create a competitive law school application and expand their network of accomplished professionals.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Restoring hope in communities of color will take a lot more than electing new presidents and government officials! We must reshape the framework of our legal institution and create a system that is equally accessible to everyone in our country. Since the organization's inception, we have been able to assist our members with applying to law school, securing legal internships, and receiving scholarship opportunities. Our journey is far from over, and increasing the 2% of women who are afforded the opportunity to become a lawyer is no easy feat, so I encourage you to join us in reshaping our country! â€‹

MISSION

Our mission is to support and assist pre-law students, with a special focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by Black women, who make up only 2% of the legal field. Navigating the competitive law school application process can be daunting, and we are committed to educating, empowering, and equipping our members with the resources needed for success! Together, we're working to increase that 2% and pave the way for greater representation!
